Ethical Decision Making

Why use an ethical decision-making framework?

Ethical dilemmas arise in both personal and professional contexts in situations where no single “right” answer to an issue seems evident.

Ethics is the philosophical discipline that examines ideas about right and wrong, how we should behave, and how we make decisions in light of who we say we are.

At PHC, we believe that reflection and discussion should be at the centre of all our activities. Ethical issues can arise at the bedside, at the system level, or both. Approaching these challenges with an ethical decision-making framework helps support the stakeholders toward a resolution that is both respectful of the perspectives of all those involved, and grounded in a well-considered set of values
